July 8th, 2009    Subscribe To Our Feed

Toddler behavior is a child’s response to a lack of limits. Consider what limits you’ve set for your son, and how those limits are enforced. Make sure your son knows what’s expected of him, as well as the consequences of poor behavior.

Toddler behavior is acceptable because he’s a toddler, at what age do you plan to start teaching that actions have consequences? Here may be a good example for parents. Perhaps you’d like your son to clean up his toys at the end of the day. When you ask him to do so, remind him that picking up toys is his job. Then clearly state the consequence of not picking up the toys, such as losing access to a prized toy for a day or two. If your son doesn’t pick up his toys as asked, follow through on the consequence.

Toddler behavior is complex, and dealing with these tiny people on a daily basis is exhausting. It is impulsive, impatient and emotional of the toddler behavior but adult behavior is deliberate, non-reactive and patient. A bump on the head will results in giggles one minute, or streams of tears the next. Predicting their actions is virtually impossible. Toddlerhood comes after parents have been parents for a couple years. By this time parents have developed the patience that is necessary to parent a toddler.

You can imagine if you have a daughter. You will understand that toddler behavior is really very interesting from a sociological standpoint. When she would ask to do something and you’d say “no” and give her a reason why, she would start crying and yelling that she wanted to do it, throwing herself on the floor in a dramatic flop.

Toddler behavior is critical to your child’s personality development. As a parent, you are in a very unique position to influence that behavior. Understand that your child takes on after you - her model. It’s quite important to be able to communicate well with your child. The dawn of understanding happens when your child begins to speak.

Toddler Constipation

June 30th, 2009    Subscribe To Our Feed

Toddler constipation must be a good knowledge for parents. It is the condition when your child had not passed a bowel for four days or more. Constipation is defined as the passage of hard, dry stools that are painful or difficult to pass. Toddler constipation is a very common and frustrating problem that needs to be handled with proper care.

Toddler constipation can be upsetting for both parent and child. Passing a hard stool is painful and because of the pain your toddler may be holding on the urge to defecate because of fear to feel the pain. Holding the urge aggravates the problem because any delay to pass the stool makes it even painful because the stool can become harder. This condition is very common and there are many reasons why a toddler becomes constipated.

The main cause of toddler constipation is intake of diet that is low in fiber, such as milk products or peanut butter. It can also caused by drinking too much of milk especially cow’s milk, which is more likely to cause constipation. Many toddlers become constipated when they start consuming solids. This happens since the baby’s intestine is adjusting to a new type of food.

Toddler constipation may also be caused due to less consumption of water or going to bathroom after a long time. And a lack of physical activity can also be responsible for toddler’s constipation.

The signs of the toddler constipation can be varied. Bowel movements may slow down that is they are less frequent than what is normal for him. He may not have a bowel movement for three or more days. He might be having uncomfortable bowel movements and show discomfort and pain when passing a stool. Other signs include a swollen or hardened abdomen, hard and pebble-like stools. Sometimes infant’s belly can become swollen with gas.

Treating toddler constipation is basically just counter the cause. Just increase the water intake of your child daily when the cause is lack of fluids. When the cause is ingestion of unhealthy foods like junk foods and more carbohydrates, you will just have to adjust the carb content in the toddler’s food as well as exclude junk foods from his/her daily diet. Knowing the reasons why toddlers get constipated is really a big help for parents to know what to do in order to promote comfortable defecation.

Laxatives are necessary for toddler constipation. The use of laxatives may help the child to defecate regularly. There are two main ways in which laxatives for toddler constipation work:

* Laxatives that are stimulants or emptier help the bowel to push the stool out.
* Laxatives that are softeners helps in softening the hard stool.

Toddlers sometimes need laxatives for months rather than weeks. Toddler constipation and other bowel movement problems that appear in the early life can be diagnosed within the first few months. Meanwhile, you must remember that these laxatives are to allow the bowel to develop a normal habit.

On the other hand for the toddler constipation treatment, you should increase the amount of fiber in your child’s diet by including food items such as fruits, vegetables, fiber cereals and even peanut butter. You should also ensure that your child’s fluid intake is high by making them drink enough water and fresh fruit juice on regular basis.

You may want to cut out milk and other dairy products such as cheese for a few days in order to allow the bowel movement to become normal again. There are also medicine and remedies that can be purchased from the market to treat toddler constipation. They are effective but not a healthy way to treat the toddler constipation.

While for head measurements, wrap the measuring tape around your toddler’s head just above their eyebrows and ears, then around the back where their head slopes up prominently from their neck. The goal is to measure at the spot where it has the largest circumference.

The toddler growth charts are as unique as your young one. They are big, bold, whimsical and colorful. These toddler growth charts are only a general guide. One thing to remember here is you must have fun and enjoy your toddler. They will grow before your eyes and you will miss their little faces.
